Annual Refresher Training

To keep everyone prepared and aware, supervisors, heat safety coordinators, and employees must participate in annual refresher training on heat stress hazards and preventive measures.

Refresher training must also be provided if an employee shows they haven’t retained the necessary understanding, or if a heat-related injury or illness occurs at the worksite that results in time off work, medical treatment beyond first aid, loss of consciousness, or a fatality.

Conducting Training Before or at the Start of the Heat Season

Employees will receive annual refresher training before or at the start of the heat season to make sure they’re fully prepared for the hot conditions ahead. Toolbox talks and pre-job meetings provide a good opportunity to quickly review key heat-safety points, for example, when a heat wave is predicted by the National Weather Service. This training helps reinforce important safety knowledge, keeps employees updated on any procedural changes, and ensures they're ready to handle heat stress effectively during the heat season.
