Introduction
This course is an introduction to the basic the six basic elements of oil well site preparation and drilling safety.
- Site Preparation: Clearing and leveling land, building access roads, and setting up infrastructure before drilling begins.
- Rigging Up: Assembling and setting up the drilling rig and all related equipment at the well site.
- Casing Operations: This involves placing steel pipe into the drilled hole to support the wellbore and protect it from collapse or contamination.
- Drilling Ahead: The process of drilling deeper into the earth to reach the desired depth or formation.
- Tripping Out/In: Tripping Out means removing the drill pipe from the well, while Tripping In means running it back into the well.
- Maintenance Activities: Tasks done to keep equipment working properly, like inspections, repairs, and servicing tools.
- Well Control: Managing pressure in the well to prevent blowouts or the uncontrolled release of fluids.
The information, tools, and resources provided in course originates from various OSHA Standards and OSHA's Oil and Gas eTool, and is designed to help you identify, control, and eliminate oil and gas-related hazards while preparing and drilling.
