Safety Manager Responsibilities

The Safety Manager plays a very important role in helping managers, supervisors, and drivers make sure the fleet safety program is effective.

Safety managers are usually in charge of developing the policies of the Fleet Safety Program.

Safety Managers are usually in charge of developing the rules and procedures used in the Fleet Safety Program. They also make sure that these rules are being followed every day on the job.

Typical responsibilities of the Safety Manager include:

  • Helping top management carry out the Fleet Safety Program. For example, the Safety Manager might meet with department leaders to explain new safety policies or help set safety goals for the year.
  • Keeping track of the driving history of employees. This includes checking driving records for new hires or reviewing records after a crash to see if training is needed.
  • Creating and running a training program for safe driving. This may involve giving presentations, showing safety videos, or leading hands-on training sessions that teach drivers how to handle emergency situations.
  • Making sure vehicles are well maintained. For example, the Safety Manager might check that vehicles get regular oil changes, brake inspections, and tire checks to avoid breakdowns or accidents.
  • Checking insurance coverage for employees who drive their own cars for work. If an employee uses a personal car to meet with clients or deliver items, the Safety Manager must make sure their insurance covers business use and meets company standards.

By handling these tasks, the Safety Manager helps protect employees, reduce costs from crashes, and make sure the company follows all safety laws and policies.
