The Safe Job Procedure (SJP) is the final result of the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) process. It outlines the specific steps a worker must follow to complete a job safely. Each step in the procedure helps reduce the risk of injury by identifying hazards and using proper controls.
Before starting a task, the employee must be properly trained and dressed in the correct personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes items such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, or any other PPE required for the job. Wearing the right PPE is a basic part of staying safe.
The SJP is a great tool to use during safety training. Employers can include SJPs in their safety training plans to help workers understand how to safely complete job tasks. By reviewing these procedures, employees learn how to recognize and control hazards on the job.
It is important that the SJP is easy to read and understand. If the procedure is written in a confusing way or uses unclear language, it may not be helpful as a training tool.
