Documenting the Accident

The more accurate the information about the accident provided is, the easier it is to get at the root causes of the accident.

An accident investigator must be as objective when evaluating data.

It is important that the accident investigator(s) be as objective as possible in gathering and evaluating data from the accident scene.

One of the biggest challenges facing an investigator is to determine what information is relevant. You want to gather data that will help you determine what happened, how it happened, and why it happened. Identifying items which answer these questions is the purpose of documenting the accident scene.
