680 Aerial and Serial Lift Safety Skip to main content

Pre-Use Inspections

OSHA requires pre-use inspections for both aerial and scissor lifts. Since these are different types of equipment, the inspection requirements are not exactly the same. However, the main purpose of the inspection is to make sure that all parts of the lift, including safety features, are working properly and that the lift is safe to use in the intended work environment.

Pre-Use Inspection

Pre-use inspections can help keep you safe by reducing the chance of equipment failure, and can also save money by finding and fixing problems early, before they turn into costly repairs.

Always make sure you are familiar with the manufacturer's or your employer's recommendations for properly inspecting and using each lift. Generally, a pre-use inspection should include checking the vehicle and lift's critical components.
