Ergonomic Solutions

Ergonomic solutions help make pallet handling safer and reduce the risk of injuries for workers.

Lift with the knees, not the back.

By using proper tools and techniques, employers can prevent common problems like back strains, muscle fatigue, and other injuries caused by lifting or moving heavy loads. These solutions focus on minimizing physical stress on workers while ensuring tasks are done efficiently and safely.

  • Provide Mechanical Aids: Use forklifts, pallet jacks, or hoists to minimize manual lifting.
  • Train Workers: Teach employees proper lifting techniques, such as bending at the knees and lifting, keeping the load close to the body, and avoiding twisting.
  • Limit Manual Lifting Weight: Set clear weight limits for manual handling tasks. For heavier pallets or loads exceeding 50 lbs, implement team lifting to ensure safety.
  • Task Rotation: Rotate workers between repetitive or physically demanding tasks to reduce fatigue and injury risks.
  • Examples:
    • A warehouse reduces worker injuries by purchasing powered pallet stackers for heavy and high-volume loads.
    • A manufacturing plant conducts quarterly ergonomic training sessions to reinforce safe lifting practices.
    • A manager creates a rotating schedule where employees alternate between stacking pallets and operating forklifts.
    • A policy is implemented requiring team lifting for any pallet weighing over 50 pounds.
