Securing Products on Pallets

Properly securing products on pallets is essential to ensure safety during storage and transportation.

Stretch Wrap a Pallet

When loads are not secured correctly, they can shift, slide, or fall, leading to damaged goods, accidents, and injuries. To prevent these issues, businesses use techniques like shrink-wrapping, strapping, and anti-slip measures to keep items stable and in place. These methods not only protect workers and equipment but also help maintain efficiency and reduce risks in the workplace.

  • Stretch-Wrapping: The most common method used to secure product is to use stretch wrap (or plastic film) tightly wound around the pallet and its contents, holding items in place and protecting them during transportation or storage.
  • Straps and Banding: Use appropriate straps or bands to secure irregular or heavy loads. Inspect the straps for wear and tear before use.
  • Anti-Slip Measures: Place anti-slip sheets between layers to prevent sliding, especially for loads with smooth surfaces.
  • Examples:
    • A distribution center uses an automated shrink-wrap machine to ensure consistency and tight wrapping for pallets of bottled water.
    • A shipping company straps down palletized machinery with steel bands to prevent movement during transport.
    • A logistics team uses rubberized mats between layers of glass sheets to reduce the risk of shifting during handling.
