Scope and Application
ANSI A10.50-2024 is designed to protect workers from the dangers of heat exposure on the job. Although the standard specifically applies to construction and demolition operations, it establishes practices and controls that can be used to reduce heat stress and prevent heat‑related illness in any work environment. ANSI developed this standard to safeguard workers by helping employers prevent heat‑related illnesses.
Work Activities and Settings Covered by the Standard
The standard covers both indoor and outdoor work environments where heat exposure may pose a risk. Any work environment where the heat index reaches or exceeds the initial heat trigger of 80°F poses a risk.
