Criteria for Hazards Analyses

Hazards analyses are important for identifying and reducing risks in the workplace. For safety and environmental management, both facility-level hazards analyses and task-level Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) must be created and used. These analyses must apply to all facilities and activities listed or talked about in the Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS).

Each operation at the facility must have a hazards analysis. This analysis must be written down and kept current throughout the life of the operation. It helps workers understand the hazards involved and how to control them.

Hazards analyses must be updated when an internal audit is done. This helps ensure the analysis stays accurate and matches the facility's current operations. Keeping the analysis up to date supports a safe working environment and meets SEMS requirements.

You should ensure that facility-level hazards analyses and task-level Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are developed and implemented for all of the facilities and activities identified or discussed in the SEMS.

  • You should document and maintain a current analysis for each operation covered by this section for the life of the operation at the facility.
  • You should update the analysis when an internal audit is conducted to ensure that it is consistent with the facility's current operations.
