Program Improvement

Continuous Improvement is the Goal

There's always room for continuous improvement in any safety training program.

There's always room for continuous improvement in the safety training program.

However, if your evaluation indicates the training program is effective, yet employees are not following the learned procedures and practices, the root cause is likely a lack of safety culture support of training. A few examples that give evidence of a possible lack of cultural support of safety training include:

  • Supervisors ignoring employees that do not follow safety procedures.
  • Employees are not being recognized for using safety procedures.
  • The culture conveys the idea that working fast is more important than working safely.
  • Managers do not express the importance of safety and training in meetings.

Therefore, continuous improvement of the safety culture through better support in training, resources, enforcement, and/or supervision may be necessary when employees are not following safety procedures and practices.

Ultimately, improving safety training is all about change management. Effective change management is crucial to long term success.
