Course 604 Scaffold Safety is intended for employees working on or around scaffolding. It covers the general requirements of scaffolding, the basic parts of a scaffold as well as the different types of scaffolding.
Course 803 Scaffold Safety Program Management is intended for supervisors, managers, contractors, and safety personnel. It covers the elements of an effective Scaffold Safety Program (SSP) with emphasis on pre-planning the erection, use and dismantling processes.
Course 804 Safe Scaffold Erection and Inspection is intended for erectors, inspectors, supervisors, managers, and anyone responsible for scaffold installation safety. It covers the general requirements of scaffold safety as well as the components, erection, use and dismantling of supported and suspended scaffolds. It details more specific guidelines for safely erecting, using, and dismantling each type of scaffold. It also describes important guidelines for conducting safety inspections of supported and suspended scaffolds.
Course 804 Safe Scaffold Erection and Inspection provides the knowledge-based training component needed to prepare workers for scaffold competent person responsibilities, including scaffold erection, inspection, and hazard recognition.
This course covers OSHA scaffold safety requirements, inspection criteria, and common hazards associated with scaffold erection and use. It satisfies the online / classroom training portion of scaffold competent person preparation as defined by OSHA.
OSHA defines a competent person as someone who has both the knowledge to identify existing and predictable hazards and the authority to take prompt corrective measures. While this course provides essential knowledge and hazard recognition training, employers are responsible for evaluating hands-on competence and formally designating competent persons.
Completion of course 804 Safe Scaffold Erection and Inspection alone does not designate an individual as an OSHA "competent person." Competent person status is determined by the employer and requires demonstrated ability, jobsite experience, and authority to correct hazards, in addition to formal training.

OSHA requires employers to train workers who use or work on scaffolds so they can recognize scaffold hazards and know how to work safely. Training must cover how scaffolds are safely erected, used, inspected, and maintained, as well as load limits and fall protection.
Workers who build, inspect, or oversee scaffolds must receive additional training related to those tasks. Employers must retrain workers when conditions change, new hazards appear, or unsafe behavior is observed.
OSHA does not require a specific training format, but employers are responsible for making sure training is effective and that designated competent persons have the knowledge, experience, and authority to correct scaffold hazards.
