Task-Specific Accidents

The first major category of accidents include those that occur during task-specific operations. This major category has been further subdivided into accidents that occur during:

Typical drilling site hazards are many and continuously present.

Contractors provide important services - make sure they do so safely especially during the following activities:

  1. Drilling operations: For instance, operating and maintaining drilling equipment (e.g., top drive, rotary table).
  2. Derrick tasks: For example, installing and removing drill pipe (tripping in/out of the hole), working on the monkey board to guide pipe handling, and setting and removing slips and tongs.
  3. Materials handling: Examples include moving casing, pipe, drilling mud, and heavy equipment, and staging and storing materials at the rig site
