Training

It is important everyone in the workplace understands the symptoms of stress, how to handle work-related stress, and most importantly how to get help by reporting it.

Employers should provide instruction and training on the process and encourage reporting instances of work-related stress.

Training and instruction may include information on the following topics:

  • Management commitment and support for stress prevention program
  • Psychological risk factors
  • Early warning signs of a stress response
  • Individual and organizational measures used to prevent work-related stress from occurring
  • Workplace procedures and policies
  • How to report work-related stress and psychological risk factors
  • How work-related stress reports will be responded to, including time frames
  • Where to access support within the workplace and outside of the workplace

Information about work-related stress can be given to workers. The best method to inform employees is holding team meetings to allow for discussion. Other methods can be used too, including:

  • Company newsletters or pamphlets
  • Information sheets in pay slips
  • Posters around the workplace
  • Email messages or intranet announcements
