15-8. General Requirements.
Hooks
- Use hooks for lifting according to ASME B30.10 and the manufacturer's instructions.
- Remove hooks from service if they show excessive wear, deformation, or lack clear identification of the manufacturer and Working Load Limit (WLL).
- Employ safety latch-type hooks when possible and ensure duplex (sister) hooks are loaded correctly.
Eyebolts, Eye Nuts, Swivel Hoist Rings, and Turnbuckles
- Use these devices as per ASME B30.26, without exceeding the manufacturer's WLL.
- Ensure each device is clearly marked with the manufacturer's name, WLL, and other specified details.
- Avoid side loading turnbuckles and ensure proper rigging and securing during lifts.
Non-Shoulder Eyebolts
- Employ non-shoulder eyebolts only for in-line loads.
Custom Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices
- Design, test, and use custom below-the-hook lifting devices according to ASME B30.20.
Multiple Lift Rigging (MLR)
- Adhere to the requirements for MLR assembly as outlined in chapter 16.
