Team Responsibilities

Typical JHA team responsibilities include the following:

  • developing the JHA by defining the key steps of each job;
  • identifying the potential hazards of each key step;
  • recommending safe practices (e.g., engineering controls, administrative controls, etc.) to eliminate or reduce each hazard/exposure;
  • conducting an initial walk-through of the JHA procedure to test and verify all steps are effective;
  • recommending needed changes including specific policies, procedures, practices, equipment, training, etc., identified in the initial walkthrough;
  • conducting a final walk-through of the JHA procedure to test and verify step improvements are effective;
  • submitting the completed JHAs to affected supervisors, trainers, and managers for final review and approval; and
  • deploying the JHA throughout the workplace for initial training and operations.
