  • Building Confidence Through Real-World Safety Training
  • "Safety is a critical component at each company we visit. Completing their OSHAcademy 10-hour Construction Safety and Health early in the year sets the stage for college and career success."

At Kent Career Tech Center in Michigan, Engineering Instructors Elizabeth Stek and Joe Phillips integrate OSHAcademy’s 10-hour Construction Safety and Health program into their career tech education curriculum, helping students establish a strong foundation in workplace safety before entering the field. Each semester, about 60–70 students complete the training, which has become an essential part of their academic and professional development.

Students benefit from the training’s flexibility and self-paced format. They can log in, complete sections between other class activities, and progress at their own speed. Many start their day with OSHAcademy training, then take a break to focus on other class projects before returning to complete more modules. This structure allows them to manage their time effectively while keeping their learning consistent and engaging. The self-directed design encourages students to take initiative, use short periods of downtime productively, and stay motivated throughout the program.

For many students, the OSHAcademy 10-hour program is the first professional certificate they earn that’s assessed by a third-party organization rather than their teacher. This experience strengthens their self-assurance and helps them develop self-directed learning skills that carry over into other areas of study and future careers.

As students move into internships or job shadow experiences, their safety training becomes a valuable asset. They are better prepared to identify safety-first companies and contribute meaningfully to those environments from day one. Phillips explains, “Safety is a critical component at each company we visit. Completing their OSHAcademy 10-hour Construction Safety and Health early in the year sets the stage for college and career success.”

Phillips says OSHAcademy’s program has elevated his students’ learning experience. “It allows them to see how broad safety is in the real world and opens their eyes to other options.” With co-branding opportunities and exceptional customer support, he notes that OSHAcademy has helped Kent Career Tech Center’s program stand a step above in preparing students for future success.

OSHAcademy would like to recognize Kent Career Tech Center for their continued efforts toward workplace safety and health.
