Foot Protection

Foot protection is necessary for protection against falling or rolling objects, sharp objects, molten metal, hot surfaces and wet, slippery surfaces.

Always wear proper foot protection.

Sturdy work shoes with steel toes, non-slip soles, and oil and chemical resistant soles are generally worn in all drilling and production operations and gas plant locations. Shoes and Boots need to meet ASTM F2412-05 and ASTM 2413-05.

Workers exposed to these hazards should use:

  • appropriate foot guards
  • impact and penetration-resistant safety shoes, or
  • boots and leggings

On offshore rigs it's important that workers and others do not wear shoes with taps, protruding nails, or high heels.

Inspect shoes or boots regularly and replace them when they are damaged or no longer provide adequate protection.
