Assessing and Analyzing the Workplace

To effectively assess and analyze the workplace for chemical hazards, follow this streamlined two-step process:

Check for hazardous chemicals regularly.

Assessment

  • Conduct regular checks for classified hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
  • Carry out a comprehensive inspection by walking around the facility and reviewing records.
  • Based on your findings, compile a list of all hazardous chemicals present.
  • Obtain and use the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) as the primary document to analyze each chemical.

Analysis

  • Review each chemical's SDS to understand its associated risks. The SDS provides detailed information on the physical and health hazards, routes of exposure, toxicity levels, and other vital data about each chemical.
  • After pinpointing and understanding the specific hazards of each chemical, it's crucial to manage these risks. Employ a systematic approach to either eliminate or minimize these hazards.
