Sample HCS Primary Container Label
The HCS primary container label provides an immediate visual reminder of a chemical's hazards.
It isn't necessary to list every hazard of the chemical on the label. The safety data sheet (SDS) is used for this purpose.
Manufacturers and importers must classify the chemical's hazards, including hazards associated with known or reasonably anticipated uses. Required label elements are based on that classification.
Small Container Labels
When full labeling is infeasible, containers with a capacity of 100 milliliters or less may display the product identifier, pictograms, signal word, chemical manufacturer's name and telephone number, and a statement that the complete label information appears on the immediate outer package.
Containers with a capacity of 3 milliliters or less may display only the product identifier when the manufacturer, importer, or distributor can demonstrate that a label would interfere with normal use.
The immediate outer package must display the full shipped-container label and state that the small containers must be stored in that package when not in use.
